The course teaches students comprehensive and specialized subjects in computer science; it develops skills in critical thinking and strategic planning for changing and fast-paced environments, including technological and operational analysis; and it develops competences in leadership, including autonomous decision-making, and communication with team members, stakeholders, and other members of a business.



The overall course objectives of the programme are:



Knowledge

  • Students will know how to identify key strategies for responding to business or software product requirements, and know how to apply engineering solutions to achieve specific outcomes;
  • Students will understand theoretical knowledge and algorithmic principles commensurate with advanced textbooks demonstrated in their ability to model and design solutions to complex problems.
  • Students will be able to contextualize factual knowledge computer science issues in view of relevant social and ethical issues.
  • Students will display creative thinking on the basis of the knowledge they gain in the course in response to concrete and abstract problems.



Skills

  • Students demonstrate some application of theoretical and practical knowledge in responding to problems.
  • Students formulate their ideas in clearly structured conventional formats and use appropriate evidence to support their claims.
  • Students will monitor, evaluate, and adjust their own learning needs in order to succeed as independent learners.
  • Students will also collect and analyse data to respond to both well-defined practical problems and well-specified abstract problems.



Competences

  • Students will manage well-defined IT projects with a range of responsibilities that require independent decision-making and handling of unpredictable situations.
  • Students will gain professionalism, discipline, and creativity through managing projects and collaborating with others.
  • Students will develop the learning skills needed to continue to undertake further, self-directed studies in computer science and programming with a high degree of autonomy.

Dr Akomeno Omu is the Chief Academic Officer and Dean of Kibo School. She is passionate about curriculum design, leadership development, and educational system building for the African context, and has a wealth of experience as a researcher and educator at higher education institutions across Europe and Africa.

Santiago Camacho Ahumada

Santiago is originally from Bogota Colombia.



He studied at Colegio San Carlos and pursued a Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics from Universidad de los Andes. Following that he continued his graduate studies at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where he obtained a Master's and Ph.D. in Mathematics with a focus on Mathematical Logic and Asymptotic Differential Equations.



He worked teaching at Illinois Wesleyan University, and then worked for the University of Illinois. FOllowing this he joined Wolfram Research, creators of Mathematica and Wolfram Alpha, and is currently teaching the Mathematical Thinking Course for Kibo.

Ope Bukola

An expert in building technology for teaching and learning, Ope previously led the product team for Google Classroom, the #1 K-12 learning platform. She led a team building formative assessment tools at Amplify Education, and partnership development at CK-12 Foundation, a provider of open source educational content.
